Audrey and Orin, played by Brooke Windsor and Sam Padilla, will perform in this year’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School class of 2020 will present the musical comedy, “Little Shop of Horrors,” Thursday through Sunday. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman film of the same name, this dark comedy centers around Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy flower shop worker who discovers a strange new type of plant.

As his plant begins to grow and bring fame to Mushnik’s Skid Row Florist Shop, Seymour starts to believe that the plant will help him fulfill his wildest dreams; mainly to help him gain the love of his co-worker crush, Audrey. Unfortunately for him, the plant has other plans.

This year’s senior class play will feature numerous versions of the man-eating plant, known as Audrey II, in various stages of growth. Student actors and puppeteers have been hard at work to make human interactions with these elaborate plant puppets seem realistic.

Among the cast members are: Crystal – Michelle Barnes; Ronnette – Jhadori Anderson; Chiffon – Shaybreona Stevenson; Seymour – Kane Schwarz; Audrey – Brooke Windsor; Mr. Mushnik – Evans Holliday; Orin – Sam Padilla.

The musical comedy, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, opened on Broadway in 1982 to rave reviews and enjoyed a five-year run. Numerous tours and revivals followed and in 1986 the play was turned into a major motion picture.

Currently, casting is underway for a new movie remake of the musical. C-SD’s Little Shop of Horrors opens on Thursday at C-SD’s Auditorium.

Show times are:
March 12, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m.
March 14 at 2 p.m.
March 15 at 3 p.m.
All seats are $10.
