Dave Woolfolk went from being a player on C-SD’s 1979 state championship team to playing for a bowl-winning Army team in 1984.[/caption] CAMBRIDGE – Vikings stars from years past will shine once again when Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s 2016 Hall of Fame inductees are introduced at the first home football game on Sept. 2. Not only will there be individuals, but there will also be Pioneers included, representing the schools — Mace’s Lane, Cambridge and South Dorchester — that were incorporated into the new C-SD in 1976. Individual inductees are Richard “Dickie” Moore, Tyrone Travis, Antwan Lake, Dave Woolfolk, Ryan Fleetwood and Abbie Messick. Pioneers are Bobby Elliott of Mace’s Lane, Steve Davis of Cambridge and Mickey Hubbard of South Dorchester. This year’s team inductee will be the state champion football squad of 1996. The Hall of Fame inductions were begun three years ago. C-SD’s Athletic Director Dan Dobronz has made quite a few phone calls and searches through yearbooks and newspapers to uncover the statistics – and glory – of those top Viking athletes. “I put about two to three hours of work” a day into the project over the summer break, Mr. Dobronz said with a smile. “It’s painstakingly fun.” Dave Woolfolk Offensive lineman Dave Woolfolk capped his C-SD career by playing on the 1979 state championship team. As the captain of the offensive line, he led the way for ball carriers including Darnell Clash and Skeeter Nichols. He went on to play for the U.S. Military Academy, and was starting right tackle for Army when the Cadets squared off against Navy in 1984. Later that year, the 6’3”, 250-pound bruiser was on the field for Army’s first bowl appearance, which ended up being a victory over Michigan State in the Cherry Bowl. Woolfolk was also on C-SD’s baseball, basketball and indoor track teams. Ryan Fleetwood Ryan Fleetwood got used to the cheers of the crowd in fall and spring, as a stand-out player on the C-SD’s football and baseball teams. On the gridiron, he was All-State quarterback for two years, and grabbed All-Conference and Player of the Year honors. On the diamond, his honors included All-State and Player of the Year. He also made High School All-American, earning a spot among the nation’s top 100 baseball players. Fleetwood played for the United States baseball team in the Junior Olympics, and for the University of Maryland. He is now football coach at Salisbury University. Abby Messick earned two girls’ doubles tennis championships for C-SD in the early 90s, with partner Heidi Stout.[/caption] Abby Messick Abby Messick was half of a powerful tandem on the tennis courts, winning back-to-back state championships in girls’ doubles with partner Heidi McWilliams Stout. In 1990, the duo racked up a winning score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). In 1991, Messick and McWilliams knocked off Lori Rupard and Jamie Dietz of Thomas Stone High School to win the title, 6-1, 6-0. Messick is currently an LPGA T&CP golf professional at the Hyatt Resort’s River Marsh Golf Club.
