CAMBRIDGE - Members of the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Interact Club gave of themselves throughout the Holiday Season. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cambridge, Interact is a community service club for students at the School.
On Nov. 20, Bryce Jones, Chloe Trinh, Aamna Alvi, Jordan Todd and Ashlie Price helped the staff at Delmarva Community Services set up chairs and tables in preparation for the annual senior Thanksgiving luncheon. The students went to DCS after school spending two hours of their time giving back.
The Club’s service continued on Nov. 30 with the students helping the Christmas Tree Committee at the lighting of the Tree at Spring Valley by the Courthouse.
Some members of the Club helped employees from the Hyatt serve hot chocolate, hot cider and cookies while others handed out glow sticks and programs to the guests. The Interact members got a special treat when they posed for a picture with Santa. Those Club members helping were Ashlie Price, Chloe Trinh, Aamna Alvi, Gabe Smith, Lexi Bair, Bryce Jones, Joey Newman and Amanda Bair.
Eight members of the Interact Club joined Rotarians in serving a complete Christmas dinner to a group of seniors at the Osprey Restaurant at Governors Hall Sailwinds. Sponsored by Sailwinds West the luncheon brought between 150-200 senior citizens together some, perhaps, for the only Christmas dinner they will have.
The two groups worked together to serve drinks, food and dessert. After they were done, the workers sat to enjoy the meal.
Bryce Jones, John Condon, Sarah Condon, Joey Newman, Chloe Trinh, Lexi Schwarz, Amanda Bair and Aamna Alvi worked about 2 ½ hours to make sure the guests were well fed. While the Rotarians and Interact members helped serve, Shelly Abbott and Garrett Roe provided Christmas music.
Members of the C-SDHS Interact Club continued volunteering by helping at Pleasant Day’s Festival of Wreaths. Baleigh Bentley, Aamna Alvi, Ashlyn Mann and Amanda Bair gave of their time working with the staff of Pleasant Day making the evening enjoyable for the guests.
John Condon, Sarah Condon, Lexi Bair and Amanda Bair each took a shift helping the Rotary Club of Cambridge ring the Bell for the Salvation Army at Walmart. The Interact Club members each joined Rotarians help the Salvation Army raise money through their Kettle campaign.
The Bell ringing brought a climax to the Interact Club’s Holiday projects. With each activity, the Interact members gave of their time with a smile on their face.
Each has shared the good feeling they get when they give back. They realize the importance of Community Service. The Rotarians who had an opportunity to work with the young people shared how much they enjoyed the experience.
