Both teams are young, with numerous rookies. For the Vikings (8-4 last year), only one starter is returning on each side of the offensive and defensive lines. Of 22 starters overall for C-SD last year, only five are back for this fall’s campaign. The Lions (9-2 last year) have an almost entirely new lineup on offense. The teams met in the Ravens RISE High School Football Showdown, and both earned $1,000 donations from the NFL team. Last season, both teams made the playoffs. C-SD saw a 22-year winning streak snapped when the Vikings fell to Kent County in the East region championship. In Friday’s game, QAC led 14-0 at the end of the first half. As the game continued, the Lions were able to use their depth to wear down the Vikings. Tomorrow, the Vikings will play their home opener, hosting Woodbridge High School from Delaware. The game could prove to be another tough test – the Blue Raiders were last season’s Division II champions, though the visitors have had to replace nearly their entire offensive and defensive lines. Game time at Viking Stadium is 6:30 p.m.
