Pliescott is brand ambassador
Charlette “Charley” Pliescott of Cambridge is only 13 years old, but is already moving into the performance and business world, recently being named a brand ambassador for Dance Supplies, Etc. The company, based in Severna Park, specializes in discount dance clothing.
Charley has been a student at Eastern Shore Dance Academy (ESDA) since the age of 2, and trains in pointe, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, musical theater, tap, jazz, tricks and turns, and hip hop. Outside of ESDA she has been awarded summer intensive scholarships over the years. She has performed at many events in Dorchester and elsewhere, including Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando.
At ESDA, she has participated in The Nutcracker Ballet each Christmas since 2015, performing the role of Clara last year. Charley is also a teaching assistant where she helps demonstrate technique and combinations for assigned classes and helps with chores at the studio.
Charley is in the 8th grade and is a homeschool student. When not dancing she enjoys spending time with family, swimming, and most of all anything to do with art. She loves to create art pieces painting or drawing sketches.
“We are delighted to have Charley represent our store,” a statement from the business said.

Gas prices
Maryland gas prices have risen 2.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.27/g today, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 2,167 stations, released Monday. Gas prices in Maryland are 8.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 38.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Oyster harvest closures
Last week, the Department of Natural Resources announced multiple new oyster harvest area closures:
• Outer Round Point Oyster Bar (Anne Arundel County) effective Oct. 1.
• Closure of West and Rhode Rivers (Anne Arundel County) effective Oct. 1.
• Closure of Upper Chesapeake Bay effective Oct. 1. Oyster Harvest
• Closure of Pocomoke Sound (Somerset County) effective Oct. 1.
• Closure of Portions of Halls Point and Haines Oyster Bars (Somerset County) effective Oct. 1.

Salisbury parking
The City of Salisbury Parking Enforcement Division has announced that it will officially resume normal parking enforcement in the downtown area effective beginning Aug. 3.
On March 28, in the early days of the State of Emergency, Mayor Jacob Day declared that all non-permit municipal parking would be free of charge in order to encourage citizens to support local businesses and restaurants during an uncertain time. Any non-permit parking tickets mistakenly issued during the time period from March 28 to Aug. 3 will be voided and no action is needed by the recipient of the ticket.
“While parking enforcement can be inconvenient, it is a necessary process for the fair and equitable use of spaces in the downtown area,” said Tom Stevenson, the City of Salisbury’s Director of Field Operations.
Beginning Aug. 3, vehicles parked illegally, in both pay and permit parking spaces will be cited accordingly. Parking enforcement officers will be out one week prior to Aug. 3, leaving friendly reminders on illegally parked vehicles. As a reminder, parking will be free for up to two hours in Lot 1, on the corner of South Division Street and Circle Avenue.
“The City continues to encourage citizens and community members to shop and eat locally whenever possible. Many local business owners and employees are still feeling the impacts of COVID-19, and your support is still critical for their success,” City Administrator Julia Glanz said.
