Joe Laber gets help from his friends breaking the Curlew III out of Cambridge harbor. “I’ve been stuck in the ice for a month, not doing any oystering,” Joe told us, “if I don’t get out and get to work I won’t have any money to start crabbing when the season opens.”

Joe is echoing the same sentiments as every other waterman, not being able to get at their oyster beds because of river ice. The Curlew III made its way successfully to Tilghman Island, where Joe is finally pulling some oysters up. Hopefully the warm weather will continue and we’ll soon see the last of all this ice!
