CAMBRIDGE - Bobby L. Fitzgerald, 75, passed away on Tuesday. June 3, 2008 at the Dorchester General Hospital.

He was born in Cambridge on Jan. 26, 1933 and was a son of the late Landy and Marion Stevens Fitzgerald.

Bobby attended schools in East New Market. He served in the US Air Force for three years. On Nov. 23, 1956, he was married to the former Violet Bennett.

Some years ago he worked for Calvin Webster delivering the Baltimore News American from the Bay Bridge to Chincoteague. He later worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth from 1970 until 1994. After he retired from Wire Cloth, he worked for the Dorchester County Roads Board cutting grass.

He was a former member of the Dorchester Post 91 American Legion, Cambridge Lodge No. 1211 Loyal Order of Moose and also the Neck District Fire Company.

He had been in failing health for the past several years and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since Sunday.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Fitzgerald of Cambridge; three daughters, Bobbie Kaye Ewing and her husband, Jim Ewing of Kent Island, Sandy L. McCollister and her husband, Ron McCollister of East New Market and Joy Robbins of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Missy Wilson, Ryan McCollister, Rachel Robbins, Erin Robbins, and one great-granddaughter, Megan Wilson. He is also survived by a brother, William Fitzgerald of East New Market.

He was preceded in death by one half sister, Thelma Roe and a half brother, Wendell Fitzgerald.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
