ST. MICHAELS — On Jan. 14, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will host Exploring the History of the Bay Bridge with author David Guth. The program takes place from 2-3:30 pm. in the museum’s Van Lennep Auditorium, with seating limited and pre-registration needed.
Author of Bridging the Chesapeake: A ‘Fool Idea’ That Unified Maryland, Mr. Guth will share the history of the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge, known as the “Bay Bridge” to most of us. His book captures the story of two Marylands — one on each side of the Chesapeake. Mr. Guth will explore the history of the project, and the political, cultural, environmental and engineering challenges that were faced in building today’s iconic double-spanned bridge. Signed copies of Mr. Guth’s book also will be available for purchase after the talk.
The cost is $6 for CBMM members and $8 for non-members, with pre-registration needed by e-mailing aspeight@cbmm.org or calling 410-745-4941. For more information, visit www.cbmm.org.
