CAMBRIDGE – A series of fights at the Bay Country Apartments last week have led to Cambridge police charging a 24-year-old man with five counts of attempted murder.

“We were called there July 10, several times during the evening,” Cambridge Police Department Lt. Justin Todd said Monday. Fights had begun in the parking lot of the buildings at 522 Greenwood Ave., and residents began calling the police for help.

As soon as the confrontations were broken up and officers left, Lt. Todd said, the trouble resumed. “There was one fight, one disturbance, after another,” he said.

The situation grew more serious when a man started his car and began driving back and forth through the crowd of several dozen people. A video recording that circulated on social media shows people jumping out of the way of the vehicle.

At one point, the car accelerated towards a group, and struck a parked truck. During the incident, the driver ran over his brother, who was taken to a hospital for treatment of a broken leg. Lt. Todd said Monday the victim may also need skin grafts.

Craig Wallace has been charged with five counts of first- and second-degree murder, in addition to charges of assault and reckless endangerment, Lt. Todd said. “We have an arrest warrant for him, but we haven’t been able to locate him,” Lt. Todd said.
