BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 22, 2026--
athenahealth today announced athenaOne® for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), bringing physician practices and their surgery centers together on one platform to support more coordinated care throughout the patient journey. As surgical care increasingly shifts to outpatient settings, the need for seamless coordination between physician practices and ASCs has never been greater. By connecting clinical, operational, and financial workflows across both settings, athenaOne helps reduce administrative complexity, improve operational efficiency, and support a more connected patient experience.
“For physician practices that operate surgery centers, the ASC doesn’t operate in isolation. The patient journey often begins in the clinic, continues through surgery, and extends to the clinic for follow-up care,” said Chad Dodd, vice president of product management at athenahealth. “Our opportunity is to connect that journey. By bringing surgical workflows into the athenaOne platform, we help clinicians and staff work from a shared view of the patient, improve care coordination, and reduce the administrative burden of disconnected systems. That means less time navigating separate systems and more focus on the patient throughout their care.”
athenaOne for ASCs focuses on clinic-adjacent surgery centers that operate alongside their physician practices, connecting the patient journey from the specialist visit and surgical order through the procedure and postoperative care. This launch is part of athenahealth’s ongoing investment in ASC innovation, with additional capabilities planned over time.
“Many pain practices still rely on paper in the ASC. Using athenaOne across our clinics and surgery centers has made documentation cleaner and easier, reduced opportunities for error, and helped our teams move more efficiently from procedure ordering through authorization, documentation, and billing,” said Dr. Ankur Patel, CEO and managing partner of Southern Pain and Spine. “Closing notes faster means our billing team can submit claims sooner, reconcile payments more easily, and collect revenue faster.”
athenaOne for ASCs unifies the experience across physician practices and surgery centers, helping care teams better coordinate care and reduce administrative complexity throughout the patient journey. Key benefits include:
