This unique fundraiser for the organization is being held on May 15 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge. Once again sponsoring the event is PNC Wealth Management. Artists can participate free of charge. The format for the painting, often referred to as a quick draw, is that any artist (novice to professional) may paint or draw any subject or scene at the golf course. Designated painting areas include any spot on the 9-hole event course, or the Hyatt Driving Range (Artists must observe golf rules of etiquette and safety). Artwork must be completed in that outdoor venue the day of the event. The painting period is 1—4:30 p.m. Artists must check in at the event registration table by 1 p.m. and have the back of their canvas stamped. Each completed, wet paint project will be placed up for auction to be held during the cocktail party. Proceeds from the sale of paintings will be divided 35/65 split between DCA and the artist. (Artist is 65 percent.) Sales are canvases only; no framing is required. Awards will be given in the following categories: Best of Show $500, 2nd Place $300, 3rd Place $150, and 3 Honorable Mentions (1 @ $50 or 2 @ $25.) All other entries will be placed in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate. There is no fee for artists to enter, plus participation includes the post-event cocktail party. Artists will enjoy golf grill favorites plus extras and a cash bar. If the event is cancelled due to weather, a rain date will be scheduled. For more information, call 410-228-7782 or visit the website at dorchesterarts.org and download an entry form. Entries are requested by May 13. Workshops for adults DCA is offering additional workshops in May and June for adults. Classes are open to members and non-members. “Knitting Basics” with Instructor Windy Karpavage is for those with no experience, but who want to get started in knitting. The workshop includes basic stitches, needle size gauge, how to read and understand a pattern, and more. Open to ages 16 – adult. The 2-part session meets Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. May 14 and 21. Fees are: $55 DCA members; $85 non-members. “Drawing Fundamentals” led by Jacqueline Pfaff-Pratt. Beginners will develop observational abilities and rendering skills in this two-part introductory workshop. Students will learn how to describe objects in terms of line, value, shape, and texture. Participants will explore the principles of light, space, composition, and perspective using graphite, charcoal, and conte. No prior drawing experience is required. A supply list is available at DCA. The 2 part session will be June 2 & 9, Thursdays 1 – 4 p.m. Fees are: $55 members; $85 non-members. To register for any of these workshops, call 410-228-7782.
