The works of Michael Owen are featured in the gallery at Dorchester Center for the Arts.

Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) invites community members to join contemporary painter and muralist Michael Owen for an intimate discussion of his show, “Passion,” at the Center on Second Saturday. Owen will delve into his extensive portfolio to provide additional context for the work on display.

Owen has created over 100 murals beyond the Baltimore Love Project he is most known for, and has also founded an international artist residency program called HOME. While clients have ranged from Faberge, Hilton, and Ford, among others, Owen is most interested in conversations with the everyman, revolving around beauty, change, and the 101 of creating art.

The exhibit opened March 31 and Owen will be setting up and working in his “studio” in the DCA front window starting April 4, and be there throughout the week, during DCA normal business hours.

Of his temporary studio, Owen states, “I’d love to make more of a connection to the

Community; and being present, creating, will help with that.” The week will conclude with the artist talk as part of the Second Saturday Artist Reception from 5 – 7:30 p.m.

“Passion” will remain on exhibit through April 30. These works feature a collection of paintings revolving around passion, from abstractions of the feeling to portraits of individuals who have lived their passions out.

Painting Workshops with

Jeanne Ewell at DCA

DCA has a few slots remaining for the Watercolor Boot Camp this Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Led by instructor Jeanne Ewell, this one-day workshop is for the true never-even-held-a-brush beginner. No special artistic or drawing skill is necessary. Wet-in-wet, color mixing, neutrals, washes and glazes, values, hard and soft edges, negative space, backgrounds and more will be explored in a fun, supportive, stress-free atmosphere. Fees are: $75 for DCA members; $110 for nonmembers. To register, call 410-228-7782.
