Some people are making guns with 3D printers. A new law seeks to cancel their print jobs
SUMMARY: Legislation in two of the nation's most populous states could force 3D printers to come equipped with technology blocking them from making guns. A first-of-its-kind law limiting three-dimensional firearm printing recently passed in New York. A similar measure is pending in the California Legislature. Both would direct panels of experts to come up with technological standards aimed at preventing guns from being printed. The actual blockade would take effect in 2029. Gun rights groups and digital privacy advocates both have raised concerns about the legislation. Others have expressed skepticism that the printing blockade actually will work.

Trump's name is gone from the Kennedy Center's facade, according to a top official at the arts venue
SUMMARY: The letters spelling out President Donald Trump’s name on the facade of Kennedy Center are now gone. That word comes Saturday from the executive director of the performing arts venue. Matt Floca made that declaration in a court filing to the federal judge who had ordered the removal. A tarp continued to hang over the scaffolding constructed for workers to remove Trump’s name from the building, making it impossible to immediately detect whether the only words remaining on its white marble portico are “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.”

Emboldened Senate Democrats block even bipartisan bills in hardball approach to counter Trump
SUMMARY: The decision by Senate Democrats to let a key surveillance authority lapse comes as they're increasingly emboldened in their legislative fights against President Donald Trump. Democrats are even blocking traditionally bipartisan bills as they push back against his policies and personnel. It's an approach that represents an escalation from a year ago, when Democratic leader Chuck Schumer was widely criticized within his party for his key vote to side with Republicans and avert a government shutdown. Since then, Democrats have forced shutdowns, slowed Trump’s nominations and now blocked the bipartisan intelligence law as they seek leverage in a Republican Congress.

Judge orders Trump administration to restore National Park changes at sites that 'disparaged' US
SUMMARY: A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore sites changed under an executive order that sought to eliminate “inappropriate content” at national museums, parks and landmarks. U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley's ruling on Friday also ordered the government to pause any additional changes and to submit status reports on restoring the changes. The order comes in response to a lawsuit by conservation and historical organizations over National Park Service policies. Many changes occurred at Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park, including removing exhibits on enslaved people. President Donald Trump signed the executive order “restoring truth and sanity to American history” at the nation’s museums, parks and landmarks last year.

Anthropic says it has taken its latest AI models offline to comply with new export controls
SUMMARY: AI giant Anthropic says it has taken its latest artificial intelligence models, known as Fable 5 and Mythos 5, offline to comply with a directive from the Trump administration to prevent their use by foreign nationals. The export controls mark the U.S. government’s most significant step to date to restrict access to the most advanced AI models. Anthropic released Fable widely this week. That model is a limited version of the even more advanced Mythos, to which the company has tightly limited access due to cybersecurity fears. In a statement Friday, Anthropic said it disagrees with the government’s handling of the matter.

Trump says US military strike killed leader of Tren de Aragua gang with help from Venezuela
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump says a “swift and lethal kinetic” U.S. strike has killed Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, whom he called “the infamous leader” of the Tren de Aragua gang. Tren de Aragua has been labeled by the United States as a terrorist organization. Guerrero Flores has been charged in a New York federal court with racketeering conspiracy and other crimes, including lending support to terrorists in crimes that stretched more than a decade, authorities announced in December. FBI searches office of Ohio group that supports voter registration efforts
SUMMARY: FBI agents have searched the office of an Ohio group that supports voter registration efforts, seizing documents and computer files. That's according to a board member of the group, Prentiss Haney, on Friday. It’s the latest action by President Donald Trump's Republican administration connected to voting or election operations in the states. Haney says federal agents showed up at the Cleveland office of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative on Thursday and spent hours questioning staff. A key US government surveillance program is set to expire. A look at what that means
SUMMARY: A key surveillance tool seen as vital in preventing terror attacks and catching foreign spies is set to expire after congressional efforts to temporarily extend it failed in bipartisan fashion. Friday's expiration would be a significant lapse for the law known as Section 702. It's unclear how soon lawmakers would be able to revive the spy program. That's even after President Donald Trump said he'll nominate a new national intelligence director who's more palatable to both Republicans and Democrats than his initial pick. Still, there is not expected to be an immediate drop-off. A court order from March authorized these government surveillance powers to remain in effect for another year.

Judge rules Trump can stage UFC fights on the White House's South Lawn this weekend
SUMMARY: A federal judge has ruled the White House is allowed to stage a UFC show this weekend in an elaborate ring already built on the South Lawn to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary — on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled Friday that organizers can use the White House lawn as the venue for Sunday’s planned UFC mixed martial arts event. The nonprofit Public Integrity Project had sued to challenge Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event. The White House calls the lawsuit baseless, saying the UFC event is no different from many other events hosted at public forums in the capital.

Judge extends block on Trump's $1.8 billion 'Anti-Weaponization Fund'
SUMMARY: A federal judge in Virginia has extended a court-ordered block on the Trump administration’s $1.8 billion settlement fund for compensating people who claim to be victims of a weaponized government. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche says the government is scrapping its plans for the fund after bipartisan backlash. Plaintiffs’ attorneys aren’t satisfied by Blanche’s assurances the fund won’t move forward. U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema previously agreed to temporarily block President Donald Trump's Republican administration from proceeding with the fund for at least two weeks. AP exclusive: Doctors Without Borders report found cases of abuse and exploitation by staff in Chad
SUMMARY: A confidential internal memo obtained by The Associated Press says that the international aid group Doctors Without Borders found a pattern of abuse and sexual exploitation by some local and foreign staff working in Chad along the Sudanese border. The organization said it launched the monthslong investigation in response to AP reporting that women had accused staff of sexually exploiting them in displacement sites in Chad. Hundreds of thousands fled there from Sudan’s civil war. Doctors Without Borders is one of the largest employers and biggest aid organizations in eastern Chad's refugee camps. The Labor Department says consumer prices rose 4.2% in May from a year earlier, up from 3.8% in April and the third straight monthly increase. Meanwhile, U.S. producer prices, inflation measured before it gets to consumers, climbed last month at the fastest pace since November 2022, fueled by a surge in energy prices after the start of the Iran war. As UFOs go mainstream, the jury is out on what the existence of alien life might mean for religion
SUMMARY: Steven Spielberg's new film “Disclosure Day” explores extraterrestrial life and its impact on religion. UFOs, now also called UAPs, are gaining mainstream attention. The Pentagon released UFO files in May, sparking public curiosity. Former President Barack Obama set off a media frenzy by suggesting aliens exist in an interview. Some believe extraterrestrial life could challenge religious beliefs, while others see it as beneficial. Some Catholic figures — such as Vice President JD Vance and Monsignor Stephen Rossetti — view UFOs as demonic, though the Catholic Church remains open to the idea of alien life. How Americans celebrated the bicentennial — with fireworks, a Freedom Train and Farrah
SUMMARY: In 1976, as the United States prepared to celebrate its 200th anniversary, the mood was ambivalent. Americans had outlasted the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal, with the occasional moment of joy like the moon landing. The State of the Union was intact, even if many Americans were still on edge. The traveling Freedom Train, Operation Sail and TV's “Bicentennial Minute" aimed for positive vibes, dance music ruled the airwaves, and Farrah Fawcett-Majors' red, white and blue poster became a phenomenon.
