FBC--T25-OREGON-MOORE-RAIOLA

QB Raiola to start with Moore ruled out of No. 13 Oregon’s game against No. 21 UCLA

SUMMARY: Quarterback Dante Moore returned to practice with No. 13 Oregon this week, but he remains in the concussion protocol and won’t play on Saturday when the Ducks host UCLA. Moore sustained the concussion in a late hit by linebacker Desman Stephens during the second quarter of the Ducks’ 41-27 victory over Southern California on Sept. 26. Moore was placed on a stretcher and left the game in an ambulance. Moore was listed as out of Saturday’s game against the Bruins on the Big Ten’s availability report.

FBC--T25-TEXAS-OKLAHOMA PREVIEW

No. 1 Texas has reversed role and a reminder in Red River game against 2-loss unranked Oklahoma

SUMMARY: Coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 1 Texas certainly know about going into their Red River rivalry game already with two losses. It’s the exact position the Longhorns were in last October, and they know what happened then. Texas is 4-0 going into Saturday’s game against 2-2 Oklahoma. The Horns last year had plummeted from preseason No. 1 to unranked for the game in the middle of the State Fair of Texas. They then beat previously undefeated No. 6 Oklahoma. This will be the 122nd game in the series, with fans in burnt orange and crimson split at the 50-yard line inside the historic 92,100-seat Cotton Bowl Stadium.

HKN--SHORTER CAMPS-FALLOUT

Shorter NHL training camps don’t change much about early-season hockey, it’s still sloppy

SUMMARY: The hockey is sloppy, scoring is up slightly and goaltenders are stopping the puck less than all of last NHL season. But after more than 100 games have been played following shorter training camps and less exhibition action, there’s little evidence to suggest that it made the play on the ice any worse. Maybe that’s a good thing because this is the league’s new normal. Coaches might want to do a little more teaching, but players are not complaining about the shorter ramp-up period.

BKL--LIBERTY-NO TIMEOUT

Breanna Stewart says Liberty were told they did not have a reset timeout in overtime

SUMMARY: The New York Liberty opted not to advance the ball for a better shot at a tying 3-pointer, then said after their loss Wednesday night that officials told them they didn’t have a reset timeout left. Angel Reese made two free throws to give the Atlanta Dream a three-point lead with 4.3 seconds remaining in overtime. The broadcast of the game showed that the Liberty had their reset, which is a WNBA rule allowing a team to advance the ball to halfcourt without going back to its bench to huddle. But Breanna Stewart said after missing the potential tying shot that a referee told her the Liberty didn’t have a reset remaining.

BBI--CUBA-SPONSORSHIP

Industriales become first Cuban baseball team to wear a private sponsor logo

SUMMARY: Cuba’s flagship baseball team, Industriales, has debuted a jersey with a private sponsor’s logo. This marks a significant shift in a country that long rejected professional sports and advertising. The Havana-based team recently wore jerseys featuring the logo of “A Granel,” a Cuban fuel distribution company. The logo also appears on the outfield wall at their home stadium. This is the first time in the 65-year history of Cuba’s National Baseball Series that a team has taken the field with a sponsor. Officials say the sponsorship will help improve conditions, providing essential equipment and logistics support.

FBC-T25-IOWA STATE-BYU PREVIEW

LJ Martin’s injury poses stiff challenge to No. 8 BYU’s offense as Cougars host Iowa State

SUMMARY: BYU running back LJ Martin could be sidelined for four to six weeks after suffering a lower-body injury against TCU. He had two carries for 16 yards in the Cougars’ 17-10 win over the Horned Frogs before leaving the game. Martin’s absence is a significant blow to BYU’s offense. He was the Big 12’s leading rusher last season, tallying 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Cougars mustered just 216 total yards against the Horned Frogs in his absence. With Martin unavailable, the Cougars will rely on multiple backs to shoulder the load in the backfield. Preston Rex and Journee Tonga should both see increased carries.

US--ELECTION 2026-TRUMP-FOOTBALL

The midterm elections won’t keep Trump from college football on Saturday. A hurricane might

SUMMARY: A hurricane is menacing the Gulf Coast, but President Donald Trump remains eager to attend a big college football game in Alabama on Saturday night. Trump hopes to visit Bryant-Denny Stadium for the Top 10 Alabama-Georgia matchup. Officials are still discussing how the storm might affect the game. Trump said on Wednesday that he doesn’t want to do anything to strain resources. His love of sports and large crowds are often key factors in his travel plans, even close to the Nov. 3 midterm elections. The White House sees the games as a way to energize Republicans, but others say mixing sports and politics can be risky.

There will be time for the Dodgers to reset their rotation and have Tarik Skubal in place for Game 1 against Milwaukee. There also will be ample rest for the bullpen, including newly reinstalled closer Edwin Díaz. The Dodgers moved closer to their goal of becoming the first NL team to win three consecutive World Series.

SUMMARY: Fernando Tatis Jr.‘s 429-foot home run to straightaway center field leading off the third inning got the sellout crowd of 47,712 at Petco Park revved up and waving their yellow rally towels. That was pretty much the extent of the excitement for the long-suffering fans as the Padres once again fell short of their dream of winning their first World Series.
