GLF--TRUIST CHAMPIONSHIP

Chris Gotterup shoots 29 on front nine to move into contention at Truist Championship

SUMMARY: Chris Gotterup has made a fast climb up the leaderboard at the Truist Championship after shooting 6-under 29 on the front nine at Quail Hollow, matching the lowest nine-hole score in tournament history. Phil Mickelson shot 29 here in 2014. The front nine round which included six birdies briefly moved Gotterup to 5 under for the tournament, just four shots behind leader Sungjae Im, who tees off later in the day Saturday. However, Gotterup gave a shot back with a bogey on the par-4 11th hole.

BKN--NBA-DRAFT LOTTERY-PREVIEW

The NBA’s draft lottery is Sunday, and tankers may prosper. Here’s what to know

SUMMARY: Washington will emerge with a top-five pick. Brooklyn and Utah may receive a great prize after putting together arguably the least-competitive seasons in their histories. Oklahoma City could win the whole thing without even trying. The NBA draft lottery is Sunday. It could be boring. It may reward tanking. Nobody knows. The story will be told by four ping-pong balls, plucked out of a hopper in a secure room, with sequestered onlookers from each of the involved teams and a few members of the media looking on. Those balls will create a four-digit combination that will match one previously assigned to the lottery teams, and with that, somebody wins the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft.

BBO--GUARDIANS-GIANTS TRADE

The Giants trade struggling catcher Patrick Bailey to the Guardians. Bo Naylor optioned to Columbus

SUMMARY: The San Francisco Giants traded struggling two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians. The Giants received minor league left-hander Matt Wilkinson and the 29th pick in the 2026 amateur draft in the trade. Cleveland optioned Bo Naylor to Triple-A Columbus to make room for Bailey. Naylor has been the Guardians’ regular catcher since 2023. Bailey has been regarded as one of the top defensive catchers in the game thanks in part to his elite pitch-framing skills since being called up in 2023. But his hitting has been an issue. Bailey was batting .146 with one homer, five RBIs in 89 plate appearances with a .396 OPS.

SOC--REAL MADRID-ALTERCATION

Real Madrid’s Arbeloa asks to ‘turn the page’ after fight between Valverde and Tchouaméni

SUMMARY: Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has defended players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, saying their apologies for having scuffled were enough to settle the incident that led the club to fine both of them a whopping 500,000 euros. The tussle by the two midfielders Thursday ended with Valverde at the hospital to treat a head wound he received when he hit a table. The players apologized to one another the next day when they met with club officials investigating the incident. Arbeloa says it is time to “turn the page.”

BKN--SPURS-DOMINANT WEMBY

Wemby matches Kareem, Hakeem and Shaq with his superb stat line for Spurs in Game 3 win over Wolves

SUMMARY: Victor Wembanyama had to put in plenty of work to compile 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in a 115-108 victory in Game 3 that gave the San Antonio Spurs a 2-1 lead in their second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The only other players in NBA history to hit the 35-point, 15-rebound, five-block thresholds in a playoff game are Hall of Fame members Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Shaquille O’Neal. Only Wembanyama has done it while shooting better than 70% from the floor. The 7-foot-4 superstar was 13 for 18 and 10 for 12 from the line.

BBO--ORIOLES-TUPAC NIGHT

Orioles hold Tupac Shakur bobblehead promotion, and his sister throws out the ceremonial first pitch

SUMMARY: Fans lined up well before the gates opened at Camden Yards in anticipation of a Tupac Shakur bobblehead giveaway at the ballpark. Shakur was raised in New York and Baltimore before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1980s. He lived in Oakland, California, in the early 1990s. That made Friday’s matchup between the Orioles and Athletics an appropriate time to honor the rap icon, who was killed in 1996. The familiar riff from “California Love” was played while the starting lineup for the A’s — who left Oakland before last season — was being announced. The Athletics beat Baltimore 4-3 on Friday night.

BBO--CUBS-10 IN A ROW AGAIN

Chicago Cubs have two 10-game winning streaks in one season for the first time since 1935

SUMMARY: Make it 10 wins in a row for the Chicago Cubs again. Ian Happ extended his on-base streak to 29 games, Michael Busch hit a three-run double and the Cubs clinched their second 10-game winning streak this season with a 7-1 victory over the Texas Rangers. Chicago is a major league-best 27-12, and this is the first time since 1935 the Cubs have had two 10-game winning streaks in a season. The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers were the previous big league team with two 10-game winning streaks within the first 39 games of a season, according to Sportradar. They did it in their first 24 games.
