Harvey Weinstein set to be sentenced for sexual assault after 6-year legal odyssey
NEW YORK (AP) — The first time Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to prison, reporters, advocates and the curious public crammed the courtroom to witness the disgraced Hollywood honcho’s #MeToo reckoning. Hours later, the world began shutting down as the COVID-19 pandemic raged. Now, after an overturned conviction and two retrials, Weinstein is set to be sentenced again on Wednesday for one of the same crimes — more than six years after his first sentencing in March 2020. The 74-year-old Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a one-time TV production assistant, Miriam Haley, at his Manhattan apartment in 2006. Haley gave her account of the assault at two trials.

It also comes after Swift appeared in a pretaped sketch at last week's Emmys where she dropped additional Easter eggs.
How Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas' became the longest-running No. 1 hit of all time
NEW YORK (AP) — Ella Langley’s song “Choosin’ Texas” is officially the longest-running No. 1 single in the U.S., spending 23 weeks at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also 2026's biggest hit. Since its release in October, the song has achieved 911 million on-demand streams in the U.S. and 1.26 billion globally. Senior editor at Spotify Claire Heinichen says the song’s growth has been explosive. Musicologist Nate Sloan and “Country Soul” editor Charles L. Hughes say the bright song’s ability to pull from traditional and contemporary genres in and outside of country music speaks to its success. They also cite its lyrics, which tell a specific story about the universal experience of heartbreak.
Hayden Panettiere died from an overdose involving fentanyl. She had just gone to rehab, coroner says
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A coroner has determined that actor Hayden Panettiere died from an accidental overdose of several drugs including fentanyl. A report later released Tuesday to The Associated Press says the 36-year-old actor had been to drug rehab in Malibu, California, a few weeks before her death. Panettiere was found unresponsive in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on Aug. 16. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office says a combination of fentanyl and its chemical byproduct, as well as the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam, was found in Panettiere’s system. Her father told the coroner's office she was going to spend her birthday five days later in Greenville, then fly to Ukraine to see her daughter.
In a concrete-covered culture, John Wilson carves out a micro-movie revolution
NEW YORK (AP) — In a blockbuster movie world, John Wilson is carving out an idiosyncratic niche of his own. A year ago, he opened the Low Cinema in the New York borough of Queens. It’s a 42-seat micro-theater far off the Ticketmaster map. Wilson programs just about anything. Moviegoers keep turning up. “The History of Concrete” is Wilson’s feature film debut. It's about concrete, sure, but takes Wilson's trademark digressions. Over the weekend, it grossed a remarkable $90,000 at a single Manhattan theater. Despite, or maybe because of Wilson’s resistance to Hollywood's prevailing wisdom, he has grown an entirely organic, authentic and highly personal micro-revolution in movies.

Glenn Martens exits Diesel with moans, headbanging and barely-there looks
MILAN (AP) — Glenn Martens has wrapped up his time as Diesel's creative director with a racy, body-positive collection at Milan Fashion Week. The runway, bathed in red light, set the stage for a provocative show. Midway through, models in the stands began moaning to the soundtrack "Love to Love You Baby." Martens described the collection as experimental, celebrating body positivity and love. The designs included knitwear that disintegrated into denim and leather, with trompe l’oeil effects. Martens, who joined Diesel in 2020, leaves the brand but remains with parent company OTB’s Maison Margiela.
‘You should not be here,' Trump tells CNN at UN as standoff with media outlets persists
NEW YORK (AP) — A tense moment between President Donald Trump and CNN's Kaitlan Collins is a stark reminder of how the conflict between the administration and some news outlets has escalated in just a few days. Trump began his United Nations visit Tuesday by telling Collins: “You should not be here.” CNN is one of three outlets banned from White House grounds, but it had been admitted to the U.N. as regularly credentialed media. CNN, along with MS NOW and Politico, has filed a joint lawsuit asking a judge to find the administration’s move unconstitutional. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
What to know about Paramount's settlement and its impact on movies
NEW YORK (AP) — Movie studio Paramount has agreed to settle an antitrust lawsuit filed by 12 states, the last big obstacle blocking the company’s $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal that would transform the movie industry landscape. In the settlement, which still needs to be signed off on by a judge, Paramount agreed to terms including a five-year movie production plan and to invest $1.5 billion in domestic movies. State attorneys general say the settlement guarantees investment in domestic movie production and provides worker protection. But analysts say the deal is still likely to lead to less competition in the industry — and higher prices for consumers.
