THESSALONIKI, Greece - Anna Koronidou, 94, of Thessaloniki, Greece, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2009, in the company of her family, in her home in the small mountain village of Messaio. She had visited Cambridge on several occasions to visit her daughter, Parthana Thomas and her family, and loved the people of Cambridge, dancing, knitting, and walking. Most people knew her as "Mona" or "Yaya," which is Greek for mom and grandmom, and knew her for her ever-present smile. Ms. Koronidou is survived by her daughter, Parthana K. Cannon Thomas and her husband Gage Thomas of Cambridge; grandchildren Michael Lee Cannon of Cambridge and Anna Mae Cannon Bergman and her husband Jason Bergman of Bethany Beach, Del.; great-grandchildren, Lunden Cannon, Cullen Cannon, and Phoebe Cannon of Cambridge; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Breanna Dean of Bethany Beach. Ms. Koronidou is also survived by two other daughters and two sons, in addition to a number of other grandchildren and numerous other great-grandchildren in Greece. Her daughter Parthana has lived in the United States since 1973, but was able to return to Greece nine days ago to see her mom and family again. Funeral services were held the following day. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to United Way of Lower Eastern Shore, 801 N. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury, MD 21801. Cards or email letters of condolences may be sent to The Thomas Family, PO Box 404, Cambridge, MD 21613 or choptank@hotmail.com.
