Alma D. Leonard, 100
DENTON - Alma D. Leonard, 100 of Cambridge, passed away on March 8, 2008 at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was born in Clay Center, Kansas on June 4, 1907 and was a daughter of the late Frank and Barbara Fuchs Diskau.
She moved to Dorchester County with her family at an early age and graduated from East New Market High School in 1925. She worked at the gas & electric Co, as a cashier for 16 years. On October 10, 1940 she married C. Edward Leonard. Mrs. Leonard had worked with her husband operating the family business, W.H. Leonard & Sons Canning Co. until the canning company closed in 1975. Mr. Leonard passed away on March 4, 1978. She was a communicant of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge where she was a member of the St. Mary's Society and had also been a member of the church choir. She was a former member of Cambridge Elks Lodge No. 1272, Cambridge Country Club and Cambridge Yacht Club. Mrs. Leonard had been a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Eastern Shore Hospital Center Auxiliary. She had been a resident at the Caroline Nursing Home for the past three years when she passed away on Saturday afternoon.
Survivors include a daughter Agnes L. Sturtz of Hurlock, one sister Frieda Gould of Denton and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge on 11 a.m. Wednesday.
