Allan Dale Smith

EASTON - Allan Dale "Smitty" Smith died Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at his home. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late William Smith and Nannie M. Green Smith Lemon. At age 17, he entered the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the Navy, he trained and was on the Boxing Team. Following his military service, he continued his boxing career.
He was employed as a pressman for Salisbury Times, Baltimore Sun and most recently the Washington Post, retiring after 21 years of service.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy Dale Henkel of Loretto, Tenn., Mary Ellen Forbes of Easton, Kelly M. Frech of Lewes; two sons, Richard A. Smith of Easton and David William Smith of Dandridge, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Peggy L.J. Smith; a daughter, Cynthia Lou McCusker; a grandson; and four brothers, William Smith, Harry Smith, Gerald Smith and Chase Smith.
A funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Interment was at Parson's Cemetery in Salisbury.
