GREENWOOD, Del. - Alice M. Butler-Jenkins, 73, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Del. after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 20, 1934 in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late John Frances Butler and Lola Adams Butler.
She attended school in Dorchester County and was employed for many years as a USDA poultry inspector. Her job carried her to many poultry plants, Perdue in Salisbury, Cordova, Milford, Del. and Harbeson, Del. and others. Her passion was being on the Seaford's women bowling league in Seaford, Del.
She is survived by one son, Royce A. Butler of Greenwood, Del.; daughters Clara Ann Mason and Gemina Greene, also of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren Tasha Aikens (Steve), Samuel C. Butler Jr., Melissa Butler, Timothy Smith, Dionysus Butler, Erica Lynn Robinson, Rick Welch, Natea Welch, Jamina Greene, Jerry Greene, Cherrywood Reed and Caroline Reed; one sister, Christine Williamson of Massachusetts; one sister-in-law, Mable Butler of Hurlock. She is also survived by a number of great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Samuel C. Butler; seven sisters Helen Stanley, Mary Lake, Lena Montgomery, Mildred Nichols, Ida Mae Bolden, Zelma Butler and Katherine Simms and four brothers Alfred Butler, Wilbert Butler, Frankie Butler and Raymond Butler.
Services will be noon today at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Hurlock, where friends may view two hours prior. Burial will be in Federalsburg Cemetery, Federalsburg.
