DELMAR, Del. - Alfred Frank Wood died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017. Born in Greensboro, N.C., he was the son of John Smith Wood and Theresa York Wood and the later step-son of Annie Turner Wood. Mr. Wood served in the U.S. Navy during World War II followed by graduation with honors from the Poultry Science Department of N.C. State University in 1952.
In 1958, he came to Salisbury to work for A.W. Perdue and Son (now Perdue Farms, Inc.) where he held several positions in his 30 years of service. He especially enjoyed his 12 years as the Director of Personnel which provided him the opportunity of meeting many people as he recruited new employees for the company.
Frank and his wife, Lois, were long time members of the Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Salisbury where he was the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School for many years, and served on the Church Board. He also was a Church usher, where he enjoyed greeting people and sharing his love of God.
Gardening, both vegetable and flowers was a source of great contentment. He felt that his family was his greatest accomplishment. Singing gospel music brought him joy and he and his family rarely missed a church service.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Neill Wood; and their son, Danny Ray Wood. He is survived by sons, Gerry Wood, Phillip Wood (Jacalyn), Randy Wood (Barbara); and a daughter, Mary Anne Murschell (Wayne); nine grandchildren, Janelle Ferlita, Doug Gordon, Wayne Murschell II, Misty Pistone, Matt Murschell, Jordan Smarte, Miranda Wood and Jenna Wood; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday evening, Aug. 18, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road Salisbury, Md.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, 27765 Nanticoke Road, Salisbury, Md with visitation one hour before the service.
