Dorchester Center for the Arts welcomes Alex Stinton for its First Friday Literary Lunchbox on Sept. 5. The program is held in the DCA main gallery and the program begins at noon.

Upon graduating from Washington College, Alexander Curren Stinton received the 2014 Sophie Kerr Prize, the nation’s largest award for undergraduate literary writing, for his poetry and a critical study of Yeats (The Eternal in the Poetry of W.B. Yeats).

The Sophie Kerr Prize is awarded each year to the graduating senior who has the best ability and promise for future fulfillment in the field of literary endeavor. Sophie Kerr was an early 20th century American writer, who 40 years ago bequeathed a gift that has enabled Washington College to provide scholarships, purchase library books, host the nation’s top writers and scholars, all in the name of furthering the literary arts.

Mr. Stinton’s poems were featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, and he has a forthcoming publication in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Save the Bay, as well as a forthcoming interview with The Poet’s Billow (www.thepoetsbillow.org). He currently lives in Wittman.

There is no cost for the program, but registration is preferred. Attendees should bring a lunch; beverage and dessert will be provided by Friends of the Dorchester Library. Mr. Stinton will also be the guest on “A Love for the Arts” with Mickey Love radio program on WCEM-AM 1240 on Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. He will be sharing his poetry during the broadcast.

In The Galleries In September

The Dorchester Center for the Arts will present in the galleries in September, “Lost and Found,” featuring the works of Terri Griffin with Upcycled furniture; Karen O’Dowd with Found Art; Susan Stewart with Collage; Carol Gordean with Mosaics; plus a collaboration by Joyce L. Fritz Ritz with Line Design Characters and Elissa Crouch with Traditional Rug Hooking.  The show and sale will take place Sept. 5-28, and there will be an Artists’ Reception on Sept. 13 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. with live music and refreshments.
