PARSONSBURG, Md. - Agnes Cantlay Gismondi passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. Born in Sea Cliff, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William Cantlay and Agnes McIlveen Cantlay.
She graduated from Wicomico High in 1950, and then earned her nursing degree at Peninsula General Hospital. She was a member of the School of Nursing Alumni Association. As a registered nurse, she worked for Peninsula Regional Medical Center for 5 years, the Wicomico County Board of Education for 18 years, and the Wicomico County Health Department for 11 years before retiring in 2005. She loved raising her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Gismondi of Delmar, Md., Beth Gismondi of Berlin, Md., Anne Savage (William) of Salisbury, Md., and Nicholas Gismondi (Gidget) of Parsonsburg, Md.; six grandchildren, Sarah Newhouse of Philadelphia, Pa., Tessa Cauley (Jeff) of Parkville, Md. and Joseph Newhouse of Deptford, N.J., Kelly Wells (David) of Mardela Springs, Md., Nicholas W. Gismondi of Salisbury, Md., Cole Gismondi (Whitney) of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, William Cantlay (Geri) of Princess Anne, Md.; and a sister in law; Gloria Calvano of Salisbury; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Beloved great-grandchildren include, Connor, Reagan, Noah, Chloe, Flynn and Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joseph Nicholas Gismondi, whom she married on July 18, 1953; and by a sister, Isabella C. Clark.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, Md., with Pastor Charles Fiore officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the start of the service.
