EASTON - Ada Baker Gates, retired Caroline County teacher, died at her residence on Wednesday, June 17. Daughter of the late Warrington and Helen Corsey Baker, she was born in Easton, Md. on April 3, 1932. She graduated from Moton High School in Easton and from Bowie State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She received a master's degree in special education from Coppin State University. She was a teacher in the Carroll and Caroline County schools for thirty years – retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Longwoods, Maryland, Blake Blackston American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Department. She is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Francis Wheatley Gates; a daughter, Pamela B. Gates of Easton; a grandson Michael J. Collier, Jr; a great grandson, Michael Adam Collier of Seattle, Washington; a sister, Doris B. Borden of Baltimore; a goddaughter, Selina Davis of Greenwood, Del.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, June 27, 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 223 Glenwood Avenue in Easton, Md. With Rev. Clarence Wayman officiating. Burial will follow at the Chapel cemetery.
