CAMBRIDGE — The Christ Church Cambridge Concert Series will present 12 award-winning vocalists from Salisbury University in a program “ From Baroque to Broadway” on May 19 at 4 p.m.
Produced and directed by internationally renowned tenor, Dr. John Wesley Wright (associate professor at Salisbury’s Department of Music, Theater, and Dance ) will showcase the vocalists, the majority of whom are from the Eastern Shore.
This performance requires vocalists to be comfortable with a wide repertoire of musical styles — from 17th and 18th century composers such as Bach, Handel, Purcell; 19th and 20th century arias, art songs, folk songs, and spirituals by Bizet, Ravel and Copeland, to popular Broadway songs by Sondheim, Lauper, and many other composers.
Many listeners at other performances on the Shore and elsewhere have enjoyed the young, well-trained, and disciplined undergraduates who express their own personal interpretations of songs and especially with beautiful acoustics like Christ Church. Audiences have given them a well-deserved ovation.
Christ Episcopal Church is located on the corner of High and Church streets. Due to ongoing roadworks there will also be parking at 1880 Bank, the Dorchester County Public Library, as well as on street parking, and as usual behind the church at Whatley Hall from the Mill Street to Church Street entrance.
There will be a reception following the concert. Tickets are $10 at the door with students free.
For information call the church at 410-228-3161.
