Dover man struck by gunfire while walking

Posted

DOVER — A 24-year-old Dover man was struck by gunfire while walking on Monday, authorities said.

Dover Police spokesperson Ryan Schmid said a shots fired call in the unit block of South New Street was received at 10:43 p.m. Officers responded to the scene and found a home that was occupied by a 60-year-old man, and a 70-year-old man, both of Dover, damaged by gunfire.

No injuries were reported, authorities said.

While on scene, Cpl. Schmid said, it was reported that a 24-year-old male of Dover had arrived at Bayhealth Kent Campus with a gun shot wound to his arm. The man was uncooperative with detectives and would not provide any additional information or suspect description, police said.

The ensuing investigation revealed the wounded man was walking with someone on South New Street when a suspect dressed in dark clothing began shooting at them, striking the victim in the arm. The suspect then left the area and the victim went to Bayhealth Kent Campus, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
