CRISFIELD — If you’re age 55 or older and always wanted to be a park ranger then here’s your chance.
Janes Island State Park is organizing a group of Senior Rangers who will take part in a variety of educational programs every Thursday from 1 - 3 p.m. starting April 25 and continuing through May 30.
Senior Rangers will learn about the wildlife and unique features of Janes Island, and find out what it’s like to walk in a park ranger’s shoes. Sessions include native and invasive plant identification, expert-led talks, hikes, kayaking, art projects, stargazing, a pontoon boat tour of Janes Island and volunteer projects.
Participants who complete the program become certified Senior Rangers.
There is a $25 fee per participant with sessions held in the park’s nature center. To register contact Ranger Mark Herring at 410-968-1565 or email mark.herrin@maryland.gov. Space is limited.
Also in the news, campgrounds at the park are now open. Make reservations by calling 1-888-432-2267 or visit Maryland Park Service Reservations.
