Cape Schools report lead levels in water
By LEWES — Cape Henlopen’s 10 schools had two which required some degree of action based on lead concentrations found in drinking water.
H.O. Brittingham Elementary School in Milton had a water fountain in its cafeteria which was measured to be producing measured lead levels just under twenty times the reportable limit. The fountain, measured at 290 parts per billion, has been shut down and replaced, according to the state.
Another fountain, in room 502 of Beacon Elementary School in Lewes, produced lead levels of 16 parts per billion. It was also shut down and replaced, according to the state.
Historically, the state report reads, the Environmental Protection Agency has set the action level at 15 parts per billion. The other Cape Henlopen Schools reported levels less than 7 parts per billion.
