FELTON — A high school athlete is recovering from apparent cardiac arrest this week at Lake Forest High School.
The school, in a news release, said a 15-year-old collapsed on the football field during a passing drill at a non-contact practice just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
It was quickly identified that the student was experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, the news release.
After call 911, athletic director and head football coach Fred Johnson and assistant coach Dominique Hall began performing CPR as they awaited for emergency units to arrive on scene.
Upon arrival of the Felton Community Fire Company EMS and Kent County Paramedic units, an AED was used to administer one shock that restored the student’s heart rhythm, the news release said.
The student was transported to the local hospital for evaluation and treatment. The news release said a full recovery is expected.
“The Lake Forest School District commends all those involved in responding and taking appropriate action during this event,” the news release said.
“We are especially proud of Coaches Johnson and Hall and the rest of those on the field whose training led to the quick initiation of successful CPR efforts, resulting in saving one of our Spartans’ lives this morning.
“Our District also thanks responding units from the Felton Community Fire Company, Kent County Public Safety, and the Delaware State Police for their response and involvement today.”
