Cahoon appointed as Capital School District interim superintendent, search begins for Cade successor

DOVER--The Capital School District Board of Education has appointed Victoir Cahoon, assistant superintendent, as the interim superintendent since the resignation of Vilicia Cade last week.

The appointment was made at a Board of Education meeting that took place Monday evening.

Dr. Cahoon’s appointment was effective at the moment of voting. Dr. Cade had stated last week she planned on her last day being July 22.

The board discussed that they will be casting a wide net in their search using a third-party firm, the same method used by the board in the past. The board said they will be putting out a request for proposals to find the third party.

"At that level of leadership, it's a very complex job," said board member John C. Martin. "We don't want to waste time, but we also want to make sure that we're very deliberate as we continue along this process."

"I firmly believe (we should) be fair and equitable. We should not run this in-house," said board member Sean P.M. Christiansen.

The board also said it plans on using stakeholder input to figure out which qualities they want in the next superintendent.

Before the official appointment, the board interviewed candidates for Supervisor of Transportation and Supervisor of buildings in a lengthy executive session. The chosen candidates of which were not revealed in the meeting.

Dr. Cade was not in attendance when Dr. Cahoon was Appointed.

Further discussion on how the search is conducted will take place at the June 26 Board of Education meeting.
