Milford McDonald’s closed for upgrades

MILFORD — Guests at the Milford McDonald’s are going to say “I’m Lovin’ It” after the restaurant reopens later next week.

The Milford location, at 653 N. Dupont Highway, closed April 21 to undergo renovations in preparation for technological advancements. The changes being made to the restaurant — including an expansion of the kitchen and more space for mobile pickup orders and delivery orders — will provide a more efficient experience for guests.

“This is all part of the McDonald’s remodeling for the inside of all the restaurants across the U.S.,” said Mike Meoli, of The Meoli Companies, the owners of the Milford location. “It is in preparation and continuation into the digital space in terms of ordering, pickup and delivery.”

Over a three-year period, each McDonald’s location throughout the country will be closed for a short period to receive the renovations. The franchise noticed a need to change with the growth of mobile ordering.

“All the different omni channels that we have in McDonald’s to order or pick up food are changing,” said Mr. Meoli. “We need to change those order points, we need to change those pick-ups and delivery points.”

The Milford McDonald’s is planning to reopen by May 10, Mr. Meoli said.

He wants to ensure that the food is prepared and ready for customers as soon as they get to the location to pick it up.

“It is going to make it easier for ordering and delivery,” said Mr. Meoli. “It is going to make it more grab and go.

“The food should be ready.”

The franchise is preparing for the future of technology and the use of mobile ordering.

“It is also designed to create the idea that in the future, ordering is really going to be encouraged digitally,” said Mr. Meoli. “I am not saying that McDonald’s is going to get to the point that there will not be anyone at the front counter, but it will be similar to a Wawa where you go to a kiosk to order.

“I do know that we will not be there anytime real soon, but we are clearly on an evolutionary path towards teaching our guests and encouraging them that the fastest and most efficient, accurate way to get your order is going to be on your phone or our screens in the restaurant.”

Other changes are coming to Milford’s fast food industry. Burger King, 943 N. DuPont Highway, is also closed for remodeling and an Arby’s location is currently being built in Milford, also on North Dupont Highway.

Completion dates for those projects could not be determined.
