Smyrna’s Lake Como to be site of Pearl Harbor remembrance on Dec. 7
SMYRNA — Veterans from Townsend's Firebase Lloyd, the Town of Smyrna, and Vietnam Veterans of America will commemorate the attack on Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor that launched America into WWII at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at Lake Como.
The project, completed in 2018, was a collaboration of funding from the state, local contractors, The Veterans of Firebase Lloyd, the Delaware State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America, and local WWII veterans.
The memorial features a traditional stone marker depicting an image of the attack on ‘battleship row’ in 1941. It incorporates a 3,000 lb. anchor from a 1942 U.S. Navy destroyer.
Chapter 83 undertook the Pearl Harbor Memorial project as a way of honoring those who served in WWII, many of whom were the fathers of Vietnam veterans who set the example of service to country.
“We invite all American Patriots to join us to honor those from the Greatest Generation as well as showing your love and support for America during these tumultuous times,” said Terry Baker, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 83 president and annual event coordinator.
