DOVER — Eleven Henlopen Conference squads have made the 24-team field for the DIAA baseball state tournament that was determined on Saturday.
Top-seeded Sussex Central tops a group of four Downstate teams that earned first-round byes when the tourney gets started on Thursday.
In Thursday’s opening-round games involving Henlopen squads, No. 16 Polytech (11-7) hosts No. 17 Laurel (10-9), No. 24 Lake Forest (8-10) plays at No. 9 Saint Mark’s (14-4), No. 21 Woodbridge (12-5) travels to No. 12 Caravel (10-7), No. 10 Delmar (11-7) hosts No. 23 Indian River (10-8) and No. 11 Dover (13-5) hosts No. 22 Archmere (9-9).
All first-round games start at 4 p.m.
The four Downstate teams who will host second-round contests on Saturday at 1 p.m. are No. 1 Sussex Central (15-2), No. 2 Sussex Tech (16-3), No. 3 Cape Henlopen (16-2) and No. 6 Caesar Rodney (13-5>
The state championship game is scheduled for June 1 at Frawley Stadium at 7 p.m.
