‘Weird Science’ is theme of this 3rd Friday

Posted

This week’s 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury with artists and crafters lining the streets, live music outside and loads of special activities.

This month’s theme is Weird Science – right in time for Back to School – with wacky crafts, cool science features, and local initiatives.

There’s always lots to do at 3rd Friday – from art shows to live entertainment – so head Downtown for a night out.

3rd Friday is celebrating science and art this month with lots to explore.  Kids can check stop by 3rd Friday Make-Your-Own-Slime Station or learn about Tesla Coils with M-4 Reactor.

Salisbury University’s Environmental Students Association has coordinated a special area filled with environmental agencies offering fun information on everything from bees and bird beaks to streams and seeds including the Ward Museum, Lower Shore Land Trust, the Department of Natural Resources and the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance.

The North Division Street Stage will feature live music by the Mercury Agenda from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. announcement of this year’s winners of the Wicomico Goes Purple Window Decorating Contest.

Salisbury University Art Galleries|Downtown Campus has an all-new solo exhibition on display – “Dusty Funk: Black Tundra” – featuring the work of artist David Brame, a proudly Black comics creator, afrofuturist and scholar.

His comic work explores issues of race and identity in the context of the American South, Black Gothica, mysticism and the African diaspora.

“Dusty Funk: Black Tundra” is a series of mixed media Art Experiences based on an evolving set of dynamic illustrations that comprise this Psychedelic Afro Future Space Opera and will be on display now through the end of October.

Salisbury Art Space, located just below Salisbury University Art Galleries, is also hosting opening receptions for new art exhibitions this month.

“CHROMA” in the main gallery area explores the vibrant world of color through the eyes of the Salisbury area’s talented artists with submissions from all mediums.

The Foyer Gallery and Robinson Galleries also feature solo exhibition highlights of the work of artist Jinsoon Oh, including “Dreamer’s Dream” and “Pickleball Friends.”

Jinsoon Oh’s surrealistic and dreamlike approach to everyday subjects speaks like poetry to implied aspects far beyond what words and images can describe.

3rd Friday is a Downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in cooperation with the city of Salisbury. For more information: 3rdFridaySby.com.
