UHY's Herbert J. Geary III named Chair of state CPA board

 Herbert J. Geary III, a partner with UHY LLP in Salisbury and a managing director of UHY Advisors, has been named chair of the 2022-23 Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of CPAs.

Geary was elected chair by the MACPA membership during the association’s 2022 Annual Meeting held in Ocean City.

An MACPA member since 1988, Geary has more than 35 years of accounting and auditing experience, specializing in areas that include closely held businesses, manufacturing, wholesalers, distributors, construction contractors, local governments, and nonprofit organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors and several committees for TidalHealth and is a member of the Greater Salisbury Committee. He is a member of the Governing Council for the American Institute of CPAs.

Comprehensive Financial Solutions announces two new hires

 Comprehensive Financial Solutions in Salisbury has added two additional Client Services Associates, Michelle Hicks and Shanna Hearn.

Hicks joins the firm with more than 14 years in the financial industry and brings a deep understanding of retirement accounts, budgeting and account management. She will be working primarily with Michael Sise, Certified Financial Planner.

Hearn joins the firm with 15 years in the hospitality industry and brings a talent in client care and working in a fast-paced environment. She will be working with Tim Gonzales, Certified Financial Planner, and has an associate’s degree in Business Management.

 Miller Commercial Real Estate welcomes Sallie Rash and Dylan Mezick

 SVN | Miller Commercial Real Estate is welcoming Sallie Rash and Dylan Mezick to its Salisbury office.

Rashe comes to SVN with a background in retail merchandising and customer service. She will be the first point of contact for the SVN Miller Salisbury office, while also assisting the Marketing Department with social media and community outreach projects.

Mezick is joining SVN | Miller as an Associate Advisor. He is licensed in Maryland and intends to focus on Wicomico County and surrounding areas. He grew up in Fruitland.

Ørsted Announces New Additions to Marine Affairs team

 Ørsted, the U.S. leader in offshore wind, has announced the addition of two maritime industry leaders to its Mid-Atlantic Marine Affairs team. Former U.S. Coast Guard commander Norm Witt and Ocean City-based commercial fisherman Dana Nelson will lead outreach to the maritime community in support of its Mid-Atlantic projects, including Skipjack Wind.

Skipjack Wind is a 966-megawatt offshore wind project off the Maryland-Delaware coast that will power nearly 300,000 homes in the region with renewable energy.  

Witt joins Ørsted with over 23 years of experience as a Coast Guard officer with diverse operational assignments during his military career. After serving as deck watch officer aboard a Coast Guard cutter, he transitioned to marine safety and security and completed multiple operational tours on the East, West and Gulf coasts.

Witt will direct engagement with maritime stakeholders, identifying and addressing navigation safety issues, and working with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Nelson has a diverse career, including 12 years as a commercial fisherman in Ocean City and and several years as a Department of Defense contractor. He previously served Ørsted as a Fisheries Liaison Officer supporting Mid-Atlantic site investigation surveys.

Nelson will be responsible for facilitating, maintaining, and improving relationships with local and regional commercial fishing fleets and other maritime stakeholders.

 Sarah Proffit joins TidalHealth Gastroenterology

Sarah Proffit has joined TidalHealth Gastroenterology in Salisbury.

Proffit began her nursing career in 2007, when she worked as a registered nurse in the Med-Surg, Progressive Care Unit and in Interventional Radiology at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. She graduated from Wilmington University in 2019 with her Nurse Practitioner degree.

Proffit participated in two medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic in 2018 and 2019.

Bacco, Funkhouser join Wor-Wic Community College

 Wor-Wic Community College recently welcomed Stephen Bacco of Berlin and Kara Funkhouser of Frankford to serve in two important campus roles.

Bacco will serve as a System Administrator. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity from University of Maryland Global Campus. He previously served as a director of technology in Baltimore since 2018 and served in the U.S. Army from 2012 to 2020.

Funkhouser will serve as Director of Continuing Education, Workforce Development and Youth Initiatives.

She previously worked at Delaware Technical Community College, where she oversaw professional development and personal enrichment programs as well as summer camp. She has a bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., and a master’s degree from Arkansas Tech University.

New board members announced at The Salisbury School

The Salisbury School is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Trustees.

Kelley Keeler Short is the Director of Industry Affairs for the National Rental Home Council, the nonprofit trade association of the single-family rental home industry. She has more than 20 years of experience working with the private sector, nonprofits and federal, state and local governments.

Pamela B. Oland and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. She is a Maryland licensed Certified Public Accountant. Oland was head of finance and other departments with the city of Salisbury and was appointed to the position of Finance Director for Wicomico County in September 2020.

Sarah Matyiko graduated from Providence College with a degree in Elementary and Special Education and a master’s in Reading at the University of New Hampshire. She was a teacher at Pinehurst Elementary School in Salisbury as an inclusion Special Education teacher for five years.  

The Salisbury School is an accredited independent school for students in grades pre-K to 12.
