Dashiell, Gillis join NAI Coastal

NAI Coastal is growing its specialized brokerage team with the addition of associate advisors Doug Dashiell and Shelby Gillis.

Both Dashiell and Gillis have a lifetime of industry exposure in relation to real estate development and property management.

Dashiell is experienced in all aspects of the commercial real estate industry. At times, he has been responsible for the management of more than 1,200 commercial and residential units. His knowledge surrounding the logistics of owning investment properties serves as the foundation for his brokerage business.   

Gillis, after spending years working in business operations and retail management for a tourism company located in the Caribbean, has returned to Delmarva with plans to grow her knowledge in relation to commercial brokerage and development.

First Shore Federal elects Robinson as Assistant Vice President

The Board of Directors of First Shore Federal Savings recently elected Thomas O. Robinson to the position of Assistant Vice President of Manufactured Housing Loans and mortgage originations.

Based in Millsboro and supervisor of the association’s mobile home department, Robinson has been with First Shore Federal for seven years, following nearly two decades of service with local and national lending institutions on the Eastern Shore.

With First Shore Federal, he has been instrumental in the continued development of the association’s manufactured housing loan program.

Robinson is a member of the First State Manufactured Housing program, the Sussex Council of Realtors and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury.

First Shore Federal is headquartered in Salisbury, had assets of more than $340 million with seven offices across the Lower Shore.   

Merry Mears joins SVN Miller

Merry Mears has joined SVN Miller Commercial Real Estate in Salisbury as an Advisor.

Mears is a commercial real estate advisor specializing in industrial, medical and retail properties, as well as land development. For more than 20 years, Mears has worked with a client base that includes local and statewide governments, commercial property owners and investors, and privately operating companies across the globe.

Mears is a dedicated member of the community. She has served in a multitude of community leadership roles such as Regent for the University System of Maryland, Board Member of Leadership Maryland, Board Member of the Maryland Economic Development Association and Board Member of Maryland Capital Enterprises, among others. In 2020, she was named a Top 100 Woman in the state of Maryland by The Daily Record for her vast contributions in business, community, and mentoring.

Mears is a graduate of Salisbury University and lives in Salisbury.

Cathy Diekmann joins Community Foundation

 Cathy Diekmann has joined the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore as Program Officer where she will lead the administrative aspects of scholarships and provide additional support in nonprofit capacity building.

“Cathy’s expertise in the nonprofit sector, along with her program development and relationship-building skills, are a great addition to the Community Foundation,” said Erica Joseph, CFES President.

Diekmann’s professional background includes her most recent position as the Director of Membership Services for the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, along with over 25 years of experience in conflict resolution education, training design, and nonprofit program development.

Mike Lewis receives environmental award

Mike Lewis, Salisbury University Professor of Environmental Studies, recently earned the 2021 John Groutt Award for Environmental Stewardship from the Wicomico Environmental Trust.

Lewis helped found SU’s Environmental Studies Program in 2004 and was credited by WET for “playing a foundational role in inspiring countless young people to devote their lives or their free time to nurturing the health of the environment.”

Lewis said he believes the honor is a credit to the department and faculty peers due to the curriculum which is designed for students to participate in multiple community engagement projects, culminating in Senior Seminar, where the students work with a regional group/local government on an issue of concern.

Megan Kelly earns LEED AP certification

 Becker Morgan Group architectural designer Megan M. E. Kelly recently earned her LEED AP Building Design + Construction certification.

The LEED AP BD+C designation distinguishes those with advanced knowledge in green building design with a specialty in design and new construction of green buildings.

Kelly joins 12 other Becker Morgan Group staff members with the designation.

The designation requires a series of tests and hands-on project experience.

Lisa Lepore named to SU Human Resources

Salisbury University has announced Lisa Lepore as its new Associate Vice President for Human Resources in the Administration and Finance Division.

She comes to SU from the University of Maryland College Park, where she has served as Human Resources Director for the University Relations Division since 2013.

In that position, she has been responsible for all aspects of the division’s comprehensive human resources program, including talent management and retention, recruitment, onboarding and orientation, training and development, payroll and benefits, budgets and compensation, performance management, and staff relations. She will oversee similar areas at SU.

Lepore earned her master’s in Business from Johns Hopkins University and bachelor’s in Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Kelley Selph named regional leader

Kelley Selph of the financial services firm Edward Jones recently received a promotion to the position of regional leader for the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware region.

Selph will now be responsible for the firm's branch offices in this region while continuing to help the people of his community with their investment needs.

Selph has been with Edward Jones for 18 years.

Edward Jones, a Fortune 500 company, provides financial services in the U.S. and Canada.

Pamela Allison named as Entrepreneurship Chair

Pamela L. Allison has been named the Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Allison moved from department chair of UMES’ Hospitality and Tourism Management program into her new job Jan. 3.  She joined the university faculty in July 2020.

UMES leveraged a private donation to qualify for a $2 million grant from the Maryland Department of Commerce’s “E-Nnovation Initiative Fund,” which the state created to stimulate “basic and applied research in scientific and technical fields of study” at its colleges and universities.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, Allison will be the point person to shepherd ideas that bubble up within the campus community, which might find success as a productive business or service.

Allison earned her doctorate from the University of Central Florida in 2009, taught at the college level for the past 15 years. She has been a higher education administrator since 2013.

“It’s time to create a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation for our students, faculty, alumni and the community we serve,” Allison said. “An integral step in this is establishing a UMES Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” which will follow in the months ahead.

Dr. Zeinab Yehi joins Henson Cancer Institute

The TidalHealth Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute in Salisbury is pleased to welcome radiation oncologist Dr. Zeinab Yehia. With her impressive training, she will complement the highly experienced and caring team of providers who deliver radiation treatment with the latest technology.

Yehia received her medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. She completed her Internship in Internal Medicine at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center in Oklahoma City, Ok., and her residency in Radiation Oncology from Rutgers Robert-Wood Johnson Medical School in Brunswick, N.J.

Yehia has participated in clinical trials and authored several peer-reviewed publications. She is leading a Phase II trial on pre-operative radiation boost in breast cancer patients. She has received several awards including the Young Oncologist Award from the American Radium Society, Resident of the Month Award from Oklahoma University Health Science Center, Scholars in Health Research Program High Achievement Award and Dean's List, American University of Beirut. 

She is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology, American College of Radiation Oncology, Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology, American Medical Association and the American Radium Society.

Tammy Walbert earns Daisy Award

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Tammy Walber of TidalHealth Community Wellness recently earned the Daisy Award for Exceptional Nurses for her outstanding kindness to a patient.

Recently, Emergency Department Case Manager Melissa Martin emailed Walbert and said that a patient needed his IV antibiotic infusion because his home health agency was not available.

Without hesitation, she agreed to go and took fellow Nurse Practitioner Aaron Sebach with her.

During the visit, Sebach administered the patient's IV antibiotic, and while doing so Walbert did a thorough health assessment, including what might be preventing the patient from receiving the care he needed.

She identified that he did not have a phone, would benefit from Meals on Wheels, and needed his medications organized.

Fortunately, he had a medication organizer and Sebach was able to organize his medications for him while Walbert taught him about his medications.

The patient is blind and has a fixed income, so he benefited tremendously from the referrals she recommended.

Walbert was honored with the Daisy Award in a ceremony before her colleagues. She received a certificate commending her for being an extraordinary nurse.

Jeni Lopez honored with Sunshine Award

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional recently honored Certified Nursing Assistant Jeni Lopez with the Sunshine Award for Outstanding CNAs, PCAs and PCTs.

Lopez works on patient care unit 5 East at the Salisbury hospital. She was honored after a patient's family member took the time to write a nomination for an act of kindness:

"Jeni was the CNA/Tech for my wife over several days. She was outstanding, compassionate and you can tell she's invested and enjoys what she does.

“About 75 percent of my wife's hair was extremely knotted. Jeni was not happy about that, so she spent over an hour combing out the knots. She saved my wife's dignity, eliminating the need to have her hair cut off.”

Lopez was honored in ceremonies before her co-workers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional care.

Joyner presented respiratory care award

Robert L. Joyner, Director of the Richard A. Henson Research Institute at TidalHealth, was recently honored with a prestigious national award for his lifelong service to the profession of respiratory care. 

Joyner was presented with the Robert H. Miller, RRT Award, by the National Board for Respiratory Care at its annual meeting in California. Joyner was the unanimous selection of the NBRC as the 2021 Miller Award recipient. It is presented annually to a respiratory care professional who has selflessly served the profession and been instrumental in its growth over a significant amount of time. 

Joyner earned a bachelor’s in Respiratory Therapy from Salisbury University and a doctorate in Physiology from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He has been practicing respiratory care since 1988. In a previous employment with TidalHealth, he served as both a staff and charge respiratory therapist.
