Poplar Hill Festival returns Sunday, May 1
Come to Poplar Hill Mansion for a festival on Sunday, May 1, from noon to 4 p.m. as the mansion celebrates the early 1800s history of Salisbury.
After a two-year break because of the pandemic, the festival will return better than ever.
The daylong event will include War of 1812 re-enactors Chesapeake Independent Blues, music and dancing of the Federal period, educational displays, a children's activity tent with crafts and games, a May Pole to celebrate May Day and baby goats.
There will also be a tented Market Square with vendors selling handcrafted items.
Tours of Poplar Hill Mansion will also be available throughout the day and volunteers will be wearing period dress.
The event is free, with parking located in the Bethesda Methodist Church parking lot on the corner of North Division and Isabella streets in the Newtown neighborhood.
The festival was the 2019 Best New Heritage Initiative Award winner from the Beach to Bay Heritage Area.
There will be a 50/50 drawing and raffles, with all proceeds going toward the preservation of Salisbury's Oldest House, Poplar Hill Mansion. Call 410-749-1776 for more information.
