SALISBURY — Wor-Wic Community College will hold an information session for anyone interested in the Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., in Guerrieri Hall at Wor-Wic Community College on the corner of Rt. 50 and Walston Switch Road.

Currently-enrolled or prospective credit or non-credit students, anyone with a high school diploma or GED, and high school seniors (and parents) are invited to attend. Information will be provided about eligibility, program requirements and deadlines to apply. To register for the program visit the events section of www.worwic.edu.

The Promise Scholarship started in 2018 as a way to make community college more affordable, by providing up to $5,000 a year to support tuition costs.

Applicants must be Maryland high school graduates or GED recipients, have earned a grade point average of at least 2.3 on a 4.0 scale, and enroll full-time with at least 12 credit hours.

There are family income limits of not more than $100,000 for those who are single or living in a single-parent household, or $150,000 for those who are married or living in a two-parent household.

The scholarship is "last-dollar" funding, which means that students must apply for federal, state and other financial aid, and all other financial aid must be awarded before these scholarship funds are provided. Students are required to re-apply every year.

All Promise applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before March 1. For more information visit the Maryland Higher Education Commission website at https://mhec.state.md.us, and typing "promise" in the search box.
