The World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters will bring their newly reimagined Spread Game tour to the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury on Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m.

The Spread Game Tour is a basketball event like no other. Ankle-breaking moves, jaw-dropping swag, and rim-rattling dunks are only some of the thrill you can expect from this fully modernized show.

Part streetball from the players who defined it, part interactive family entertainment, the new tour will show off the best of the Globetrotters in a dazzling exhibition of talent and game.

Bull and Oyster Roast is this Saturday

St. Francis de Sales Catholic School is hosting a Bull and Oyster Roast on Saturday from 6:30 to 11 p.m.

Tickets are $65 per person and include all-you-can-eat dinner, two non-alcoholic beverages and dessert bar. A cash bar is available.

There will be auction items, a casino, music and more.

 ‘Hoops on the Ave.’ basketball festival set May 28

Three vs. three basketball tournaments. Live music. Arts. Sneakers. These are all part of a new event called Hoops on the Ave., a partnership between Wicomico County Recreation & Parks and the Mizzle House Foundation.

Hoops on the Ave. is an outdoor family-friendly festival celebrating the culture surrounding the sport of basketball. It’s set for Saturday, May 28, outside the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Registration is now open for the event’s 3v3 basketball tournaments, which will feature five divisions: Elite Men’s, Men’s, Women’s, High School and Middle School. Youth divisions must have an adult coach.

Each team is guaranteed three games. Prize money will be awarded in the adult divisions: $1,000 for Elite Men’s and $250 each for Men’s and Women’s. Teams can have up to four members and will play half-court games in the Civic Center parking lot.

Registration is $100 for teams in the Elite Men’s division, $75 for Men’s and Women’s teams, and $50 for High School and Middle School teams. Register by May 13; space is limited.

The festival is free to attend and will include food vendors; interactive art activities; live hip hop, reggae and go-go music; a sneaker marketplace; and a kids’ area.

‘Mamma Mia!’ coming to SU March 31

“Mamma Mia!” will be presented at Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium, Thursday, March 31, through Sunday, April 3.

Directed by Blake Harris, curtain is 7:30 p.m. the first three evenings and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

With more than 20 songs by pop supergroup ABBA, this musical has earned critical acclaim.

Music direction is by William Folger and choreography is by Shelby Trenary. Costume design is by Leslie Yarmo and Melissa Flores.

Hebron Legion hosting St. Patrick’s dinner

The Hebron Sons of the American Legion will hold a St. Patrick's Day Dinner on Thursday, March 17, from 5:30 to  8 p.m. at the Hebron American Legion, 201 Chestnut Tree Road in Hebron.

There will be a choice of two different dinners: corned Beef, cabbage, red potatoes and roll – or Shepherd's Pie with a side salad.

The cost is $12 per dinner. Take out orders are also available by calling 410-546-5159  after 4 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the many local activities sponsored by the Hebron Sons of the American Legion.

SU Galleries opens new exhibition

The Salisbury University Art Galleries in Downtown Salisbury will host the exhibition “Between Heaven and Earth” through March 31.

Related performances are at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18.

Immersive screen-dance performances by artist Jennnifer Leung Johnson are about the spaces created and the breaks rejoined through the process of healing. She interweaves dance, digital media, trauma research, healing frequencies, neuroaesthetics and interactive elements to create an interdisciplinary and multisensory experience.

This provides participants with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the space between the tangible world and the intangible realm of perceived and imagined reality.

Chinese auction planned Saturday

Salisbury’s Queen City Elks Lodge No. 1051 & Success Temple No. 154 will host a Chinese Auction on Saturday at the Richard Henson Center Ballroom on the campus of University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne.

The event hours are 5 to 9 p.m. The cost is $15 (includes a light meal and entertainment).  Auction tickets will be sold separately at the event.  

 Wiffle ball tournament returns April 23

 Wicomico Recreation & Parks’ Cabin Fever Breakout Wiffle ball tournament returns for its second year at the Henry S. Parker Complex’s Field 7 ½.

The two-day tournament will take place April 23-24. Participants must be 16 or older. Teams are guaranteed three games. Rosters are limited to a minimum of four players and a maximum of 10.

Tournament champions will receive a custom trophy and medals. The second-place team will also receive custom medals.

Field 7 ½ is designed to provide individuals with physical or mental challenges the opportunity to play baseball.

Faith Filled Women’s event is March 26

After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual Faith Filled Women’s Conference returns to Salisbury on Saturday, March 26.

This year marks the 10th annual event and will be held at the Wicomico Civic Center.

The conference theme is “Simply Celebrate'' and features keynote speaker Sandra Stanley, author of the devotional book “Breathing Room.”

Tickets are on sale now for $60 and include all day admission, breakout speakers, inspiring praise music, vendors, buffet lunch, dessert and much more. For more information and to purchase tickets go to info@faithfilledwomen.com.

Faith Filled Women is a volunteer nonprofit organization started in 2011 by a group of women from many different churches and backgrounds. FFW is an independent, non-denominational, Christian women’s organization.

Junior Golf League tees off this April

The Junior Eastern Shore Golf League will tee off for its eighth season this April.

This program is for girls and boys ages 8-18. For younger players the sessions are designed to introduce them to the game of golf in a positive, friendly and instructional manner. For the older players the program aims to further develop their skills and provide an experience that helps prepare them for playing at the high school or college level.

The six-hole matches are for ages 8-9 (modified tees) and ages 10-11 (modified tees). Nine-hole matches are for ages 12-14 (forward tees) and ages 15-18 (member tees).

The season begins Monday, April 11.

Nine-hole matches are played on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and six-hole matches are played on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at various locations, including Nutters Crossing Golf Club, Great Hope Golf Club, Elks Golf Course and Green Hill Country Club.

Registration fees are $50 per person with an additional $5 due at each course.

Participants must provide their own equipment, including clubs, golf balls, push carts, etc.
