SU Art Galleries opening highlights 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury

Posted

This week’s 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury is the perfect excuse to get bundled up and head out for a night Downtown.

This month's event is hosted indoors only -- so that means no artists and crafters outside on the street -- but there is still tons to do and see inside. From shops and gallery exhibitions, to restaurants and live entertainment there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

Salisbury University Art Galleries will host an opening reception for the all-new exhibition by Brooke Rogers: Mura Vive / Living Walls, on display through the end of March.

The exhibition features new paintings by Brooke Rogers, a well-known Salisbury University Professor of Art including works based on his recent sabbatical trip to Rome and three-dimensional constructed paintings created-using cannibalized parts from previous works.  The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and will include the performance of a new experimental jazz composition by Jerry Tabor.

Salisbury Art Space, located just downstairs from Salisbury University Art Galleries, will be open late for 3rd Friday with the 2023 Members Showcase on display highlighting works submitted by Salisbury Art Space members in all styles and mediums.

It’s a great show to stop by and admire the wide range of amazing talent Salisbury has living right here in our community.  From painting to photography, mixed media and 3-D, there will be a little bit of everything on display. Salisbury Art Space will be open until 8 p.m. with refreshments and kids crafts in the classroom.

Downtown Salisbury’s retail shops will be open late for 3rd Friday, and there are several special events to check out this month. Worthington Realty Group will have its doors open to showcase "the love of art and creativity" sponsored by Rewind Design, sister company to Worthington.

Tour the stunningly renovated space and design stylings of Broker/Owner/Designer Holly Worthington, and view an art showcase of their talented friends including artists Danielle Dombrowski of Quiet Riot Photography, John Mosher and Abbi Custis Art Studio.  Homes4Hope Therapeutic Solutions will be providing light snacks and drinks while visitors can create and take home their very own gratitude jar.

Looking for Live Entertainment? Market Street Inn Restaurant and Pub will have The Mercury Agenda in the pub playing everyone’s rock favorites starting at 8 p.m. Brew River will have an entertainment double header with Best Kept Soul from 7 to 11 p.m. and DJ Bubbalou from 9 to close.

3rd Friday is a Downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in cooperation with the city of Salisbury. There is no charge for artists to participate, but advance registration is required. For More Information: 3rdFridaySby.com.
