Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes had a comfortable lead over her Republican challenger Donna Bradshaw in District 37A, the minority-majority district that includes portions of Wicomico and Dorchester counties.
With 24 of 37 precincts reporting on Tuesday night, Sample-Hughes had 3,122 votes over Bradshaw with 1,827. The Wicomico County Board of Election will begin canvassing mail-in ballots on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Sample-Hughes was elected to the seat in 2014. A former Wicomico County Council member, she lives in Salisbury. Sample-Hughes holds a top rank in House of Delegates leadership, serving as Speaker Pro Tem.
Bradshaw lives in Rhodesdale and describes herself as a mother, grandmother and businesswoman. Her husband is a former Dorchester County Council member. This was her first bid for General Assembly.
