Salisbury Mayor Jake Day will give his first "State of the City" address in two years at a presentation next week in Downtown Salisbury.
Day was serving in Africa during a U.S. Army deployment, and missed the event last fall.
The 2021 address will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Revival theater in Downtown Salisbury.
Day, along with special guests, will take a comprehensive look at the past year in the city, as well as what is on the horizon for Salisbury.
Last year’s State of the City address was given by City Administrator Julia Glanz because Day was overseas on a yearlong deployment. The mayor, who returned home last spring, called in to briefly participate.
The mayor is spearheading several new initiatives in the city, including an examination of zoning regulations, a program to address housing shortages and city roads and infrastructure.
Those planning to attend are invited to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour; the presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Revival is located upstairs in the City Center at 213 West Main St.
SU presentation Nov. 3
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Day will be at Salisbury University to discuss efforts to remake Salisbury and address the city’s growth and development.
Day will focus that speech on efforts to revitalize the city and, in particular, the Downtown area.
He speaks about those efforts and plans to redevelop the city despite pandemic challenges during the presentation “Three Rules for Remaking a City” 6:30 p.m. in Room 103 of Salisbury University’s Henson Science Hall.
In part due to Day’s work with Downtown, Salisbury has become Maryland’s fastest-growing city and 16th fastest-growing metropolitan area, with the seventh-fastest growing job market.
Day earned a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland College Park, a master’s degree in Urban Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s in Environmental Policy from Oxford University.
Sponsored by SU’s Urban and Regional Planning Program, admission is free and the public is invited.
