Salisbury Councilwoman Gregory files for state Senate seat

Posted

Salisbury City Councilwoman Michele Gregory announced she has filed to run for the District 38 seat in the Maryland Senate in the 2022 election.

Gregory, a Democrat, also announced that Progressive Maryland, an organization representing working class people throughout the state, endorsed her campaign.

A Parkway Avenue resident, Gregory was elected to the City Council in 2019 to fill the city’s District 4 seat previously held by Jim Ireton who decided not to seek re-election.

Gregory is the first person to file for the Senate in District 38, but it is expected that incumbent Senator Mary Beth Carozza, a Worcester County Republican, will seek re-election. Carozza unseated Jim Mathias, a Democrat, in 2018.

District 38 includes all of Worcester and Somerset counties and the eastern part of Wicomico County.
