Professional Achievers: Hammond named examiner

The Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology has named Dr. Trudy Hammond, TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s Project Lead, to the Board of Examiners for the 2020 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

The Baldrige Award is the nation’s highest honor for organizational innovation and performance excellence, and this is the second consecutive year Hammond has been selected to serve.

Appointed by the NIST Director, examiners are responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted for the Baldrige Award, as well as other assessment-related tasks.

Hammond has been with TidalHealth for nearly 36 years. Starting in the Maintenance Department, she quickly worked her way up through the organization to become an Executive Assistant, a Continuous Quality Improvement Specialist and in her current role, the Project Lead working with the Executive Staff on high-level projects and strategic planning for the Peninsula Regional Health System and PRMC.

Jalesa Hull is new SU Accessibility Specialist

Salisbury University recently named Jalesa Hull as its new Student Accessibility Specialist in the Disability Resource Center.

A former employee of the center, Hull returned to SU after serving as the intake coordinator at Wraparound Maryland Inc., an organization providing care coordination and mental health case management services for children and families on the Eastern Shore. 

There, her accomplishments included implementing online referrals to streamline youth intake procedures, training care coordinators, assisting with the creation of an intake department at the organization’s Mid-Shore office, and serving as president of the staff representation committee. 

Hull has received specialized training in emergency petitions, child and adolescent needs and strengths, safe talk and suicide prevention.

Torbert, Kelly join Becker Morgan

Becker Morgan Group is growing its Architectural Department with the addition of new team members in its Salisbury office.

“We are excited to bring these individuals on board to uphold the exceptional customer service we strive to provide our clients,” said Brad A. Hastings, Principal.

Courtney Torbert joins Becker Morgan with a bachelor’s in Architecture and Environmental Design from Morgan State University.

She has played a significant role in the renovation of Somerset Regional Animal Hospital in Princess Anne and has been actively involved in the new Capital School District Interconnected Middle Schools in Dover, as well as Marina office project in the Bahamas.

Megan Kelly joined the firm full time in Salisbury, after graduating with a bachelor’s in Architecture from Virginia Tech in May.

She brings prior experience at Becker Morgan Group after having worked as a summer and winter intern in 2018 and 2019. During her time at Virginia Tech, she was an active member of the architectural fraternity, Alpha Rho Chi, where she held numerous leadership positions including, Vice President, Historian, and Chair of the fundraising committee.

Since joining the firm, she has been involved in The Ross, a 13 -story apartment building in Downtown Salisbury.

Ani Mathers is new Perdue School Associate Dean

Dr. Ani Mathers, Associate Professor of Finance at Salisbury University, has been named Associate Dean of SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.

In addition to teaching financial management and investments in the Perdue School, Mathers has served as the faculty director for SU’s Business Honors Program since its inception in 2017. 

She also is the faculty advisor for SU’s chapter of the Financial Management Association, as well as former advisor of the University’s Student United Way chapter. 

“Dr. Mathers is not only an academic leader in finance, but a role model among our students,” said Dr. Christy Weer, Dean of the Perdue School. “I look forward to the passion and energy she will bring to the Dean’s Office in her new role.” 

In addition to her work at SU, Mathers has published on finance topics in many academic journals, including Financial Management, The Financial Review and the Journal of Financial Research.
