Seaford pedestrian dies after struck by vehicle

SEAFORD — Clifton Shelton, a  52-year-old from Seaford, died from injuries suffered when he was hit by a vehicle Thursday while walking on Norman Eskridge Highway, authorities said.

Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said Mr. Shelton was struck at approximately 8:18 p.m. near the intersection with North Front Street. He was not using a crosswalk, carrying a light or wearing any reflective clothing, police said.

Mr. Shelton was transported to a hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were wearing seat belts and were not injured, Cpl. Hatchell said.

The road was closed for approximately three hours, while the scene was investigated and cleared.
