Iggy DiNardo Virtual 5K will honor late doctor's 65th birthday

Posted

The 3rd annual Iggy DiNardo Virtual 5K, a memorial run to honor what would have been the doctor’s 65th birthday this year, is under way and will continue through Wednesday, Nov. 30.

As a virtual event, it can be run anywhere. There will be local meetups in New York City, San Francisco, Richmond and Salisbury.

All donations will go directly to The Ignatius DiNardo Foundation to cover health care and preventative care expenses of vulnerable populations in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

The foundation has raised more than $120,000 to date, and has helped hundreds of patients.

Dr. Ignatius Loyola “Iggy” DiNardo died while en route on a family vacation on Dec. 22, 2019. A partner in the Drs. Huddleston and DiNardo internal medicine practice, he was just 62 years old.

The foundation was formed in honor of the Salisbury physician, who was known as having dedicated himself to provide the best possible medical care to his patients -- even if that sometimes meant having to reach into his own pocket to help patients who couldn’t afford care.

The website to register is strava.com/clubs/756131.

People can also donate through Venmo (DiNardo5K or 4437837902) or make a tax-deductible donation through inardofoundation.org/donate.

Participants who share their race day pictures on social media and tag @dinardofoundation on Instagram or Facebook will be entered into a raffle to win prizes, including gift cards from Athleta, Nike and Amazon.
