The Allen Historical Society announces the publication of “Our Heritage, Our Food.”

This handy book features more than 200 pages of delicious recipes from talented local cooks, both living and dead.

Recipes include Maryland beaten biscuits, breakfast and appetizers, fish and seafood, meat, poultry, egg dishes and casseroles, soups, salads, sauces, and vegetables, breads, desserts, cookies, pastry, puddings, other sweets, beverages, and canning.

Also included are invaluable ancient recipes, such as a “Cure for Cholera,” “Rust Remover,” “Sure Cure for Chills,” and “Tanning Skins.”

But it is much more than recipes. Each offering is accompanied by a biography of the cook. So, “Our Heritage, Our Food” is also a window into the history and lives of the Lower Shore, stretching back generations

“Our Heritage, Our Food” is available for $30, plus postage, if required. Orders may be placed and questions answered by calling 410-546-2043.

Proceeds benefit the ongoing restoration and educational activities of the Allen Historical Society, now approaching its 25th year.
