Salisbury Fire Department Cadet Firefighter Seth Tayman has received the “Right Care When It Counts” award from Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System, Fire Chief John Tull announced.

Tayman received this award for the creation of a Narcan training program he implemented within the Wicomico County Public School system.  

Last year, Tayman was participating in a ride along with SFD Station 1 when they were dispatched to an overdose.

Tayman got to experience, firsthand, the effects of heroin addiction. The experience prompted him to implement a program at Parkside High School to teach staff the proper use of Narcan administration, in case an emergency was to arise during school hours. 

Each year, MIEMSS is in search of children and young adults who have demonstrated leadership in emergency situations, or have implemented ways the community can be better prepared during an emergency.

The candidate is chosen by a statewide committee of career, volunteer and commercial EMS clinicians. 

“On behalf of the city of Salisbury and the Salisbury Fire Department, I would like to personally thank Seth for his dedication, determination and devotion to the department, Tull said.

“This exceptional accomplishment brings great credit to Seth and exemplifies outstanding service to our community,” he said.
