Adams, Hutchison, Otto poised to win delegate seats

Lower Shore voters are returning incumbents to their seats in the House of Delegates and electing one newcomer following Tuesday’s election. Here are the results with 50 of 56 precincts reporting.

District 37B

Delegate Chris Adams and businessman Tom Hutchison were the apparent winners of the two seats in District 37B.

Adams had 18,546 votes and Hutchinson had 17,853. Both men are Republicans. Their challenger Democrat Susan Delean-Botkin of Oxford received 10,825 votes.

Adams, a Salisbury business owner, was first elected in 2014. Born in Salisbury, he attended Wicomico Senior High School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business from Salisbury University. He is a member of the House Economic Matters Committee.

Hutchinson lives in Woolford and is a small-business owner known for his redevelopment work with Cambridge Main Street.

District 37B includes the western portion of Wicomico County, portions of Dorchester and Caroline counties, and all of Talbot County.

 District 38A

 Incumbent Republican Charles Otto of Princess Anne was re-elected in a 7,511-3,444 vote over Democrat Todd Nock of Pocomoke City.

A 1986 Virginia Tech graduate who works as a certified crop consultant and sales representative for Farmers & Planters Co. in Salisbury, Otto has served as a member of the various county Farm Bureaus, as well as the Maryland Farm Bureau and Delmarva Poultry Industry.

District 38A includes a small portion of southern Wicomico County, a large section of Worcester County and all of Somerset County.

 District 38B

 District 38B includes north Wicomico County and the municipalities of Salisbury and Delmar.

Incumbent Republican Carl Anderton of Delmar had no Democratic opposition and will automatically return to the State House in January. He received 6,519 votes.

 District 38C

 District 38C includes eastern Wicomico County and a section of Worcester County, including Ocean City and Ocean Pines.

Incumbent Republican Wayne A. Hartman was the lone candidate and will automatically return to the State House in January. He received 9,559 votes.

The Wicomico County Board of Election will begin canvassing mail-in ballots on Thursday, Nov. 10.
