MILFORD -- The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Evergreen and Meadow Brook area and moved north toward Haven Lake, Milford.

The estimated wind speed was 100 mph.

The tornado, impacting an area about 400 yards in width, covered about 2.7 miles.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado turned more northwest and crossed Williamsville Road and caused more tree damage.

It lifted before it reached Milford Harrington Highway.

“Several of the trees were of softwood and snapped at their trunks, which is indicative of 100 mph winds and this was used to rate this tornado,” the National Weather Service said in a statement.

This wind speed corresponds to an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, it reported.

“Doppler radar data showed a well-defined tornado debris signature that quickly developed on the west and northwest side of Milford as the circulation moved through,” the weather service said.

A resident of Haven Lake died later in the day after a tree branch fell on her while she was clearing debris on her property.
